About Me
Sujan Kunwar is a filmmaker, photographer, and the founder of Katha Hijo Ko, a project that documents and preserves the untold stories of Nepal’s elders. With roots in Syangja and a creative base in Pokhara, Sujan has been involved in filmmaking since 2011. His work has been featured in national short film festivals and recognized for highlighting social and cultural issues. Through this project, he seeks to connect the past with the present—ensuring the wisdom of older generations isn’t lost but carried forward.
My Reflections
- Why This Project Matters:
- This project is a dream that came to life. I’ve always felt a deep urge to capture the unspoken history carried by our elders. Katha Hijo Ko gives me a purpose—to record these voices before they fade, and to honor the people who built the world we live in today.
- Favorite Memory:
- Riding across eastern Nepal on a scooter, stopping wherever a story called us, and the day we interviewed an elder who once helped build the East-West Highway—none of it planned, but absolutely unforgettable.
- What I’ve Learned:
- I’ve learned that stories don’t need to be dramatic to be powerful. Sometimes, a quiet sentence from an 87-year-old says more than a whole film ever could.
- Who Inspired Me:
- My inspiration came from many places—my grandmother’s stories, my love for cinema, and a longing to preserve something meaningful before it's gone forever.
- Favorite Elder Story:
- Each story is unique, and I find them all fascinating. I love this project because every elder’s tale carries something special—each one is meaningful, moving, and worth remembering.
