Reliving Dashain and Tihar Memories with Elders: 2023 – 2080

September 27, 2023 by kathahijoko

Are you ready to embark on a journey through the vibrant traditions of Dashain and Tihar? We’re thrilled to announce the Dashain and Tihar Memories Contest, inviting participants from around the world to join us in celebrating these cherished festivals!

How to Participate:

Create a Video: If you have a loved one with memories, however simple, from the past celebrations of Dashain and Tihar, take the chance to capture their stories on camera. Create a video, and don’t worry about perfection or the highest video quality. What truly matters is preserving the memories and experiences our elders had during these festivals in the past. We recommend shooting in horizontal format for better clarity, but remember, it’s all about capturing the essence of their past memories.

Interview Questions: During your video, engage your guest with questions such as:

  1. Festival Preparation: How did you and your family prepare for Dashain and Tihar in the past? What were some of the key preparations you remember?
  2. Traditional Celebrations: Can you share some of the traditional rituals and customs your family followed during Dashain and Tihar? What were the highlights of the celebrations?
  3. Memorable Food: What special dishes or foods were prepared during these festivals, and what memories do you have associated with them? Are there any recipes or dishes that hold special significance?
  4. Connecting with Family: Dashain is known for family gatherings. How did your family manage to reunite with relatives who lived far away in the absence of modern transportation? Share any memorable stories of these reunions.
  5. Festival Evolution: How have you seen Dashain and Tihar celebrations evolve over the years? What are the key differences you’ve observed between the festivals in the past and today?

*These are sample questions, and you don’t have to use them exactly as provided. They are meant to provide you with ideas for crafting questions that will help you capture valuable memories and insights during the interview.

Submit Your Entry: Participate by either:

– Completing our submission form [form], where you can upload your video along with any relevant photos.
– Uploading your video in high quality to Google Drive and sharing the link. Alternatively, you can also send your video via email to kathahijoko@gmail.com.

Prizes:

Three fortunate participants will be randomly selected to receive support worth 2,500 NPR (Nepalese Rupees) each for the guests they interviewed. This support will ensure that these guests have a memorable experience during Dashain and Tihar.

Dashain and Tihar represent more than just festivals; they embody tradition, family, and the enduring bonds across generations. By taking part in the Dashain and Tihar Memories Contest, you’re contributing to the preservation of these invaluable memories.

Capturing Life’s Unexpected Moments Along the East to West Highway

September 6, 2023 by kathahijoko

For a long time, I had dreamed of exploring the beauty of Nepal, capturing its diverse moments, and embarking on a unique project called “Katha Hijo Ko.” This journey took me to the eastern parts of Nepal, from the picturesque Pokhara to the bustling Kakarbhitta, all while riding my trusty scooter. My goal was to find sponsors for my project, but little did I know that this adventure would turn into an unforgettable chapter of my life.

Our team at Katha Hijo Ko initiated this incredible journey, covering a minimum of 100 kilometers daily. Our mission was to interview the people we met along the way, and this routine continued for 18 days straight.

One morning, en route to our next destination, we stumbled upon a humble hut and a man who would become an unexpected guest for our interview. He graciously agreed to share his story with us, and what followed was a life-changing experience that we had not planned for.

In our conversation with him, he recounted his past experiences, including his time as a laborer on the East to West Highway, one of the longest highways in Nepal. He also shared anecdotes about meeting the King during a program and the inauguration of the road. It’s hard to believe that he used to earn just Rs. 500 per year during his laborer days. While he may not possess much now, his contentment with life is truly inspiring.

He married at a young age, around 18, and his bride was four years his junior. Despite their youth, their love story was a testament to the power of love. Their parents agreed to the union, and she remained by his side until her passing, just four months before our interview in 2020.

To discover the full depth of this remarkable man’s life journey, we invite you to watch the video. Stay tuned as the full video will be coming soon.
